HEALTH & SAFETY

The Group continues to adopt high levels of health and safety at work.  Some of the ways in which this is achieved are as follows:-

  • Providing a good working environment for the Group’s employees and treating all employees with fairness, dignity and respect;
  • Promoting high standards of health and safety to protect employees, visitors, tenants and clients from unacceptable risks and hazards;
  • Compliance with relevant legislation and related requirements;
  • Ensuring that health and safety issues are factored into the design of new buildings and developments;
  • Providing medical health insurance for employees;
  • Providing first aid training to senior employees at Group locations.

Malmaison and Hotel du Vin

At our Malmaison and Hotel du Vin division, health and safety is headed by the Director of Risk, Health and Safety who formulates and continually reviews policies and procedures which include: e-learning training courses for all employees; food safety courses for all head chefs; health and safety courses for all managers and chefs; first aid staff for all sites; regular review and update of health and safety policies and guidelines that are available electronically from the intranet and communicated to all general managers and hotel health and safety representatives.  Maintenance Managers also receive specific training from specialist external contractors on subjects such as Legionnaires' Disease, high level access and fire.

MWB Business Exchange

At our Serviced Office division, the Health and Safety Manager reviews and updates policies and procedures which are communicated to all employees.  Regular meetings are held and a quarterly newsletter is sent to all employees detailing changes, training dates and the issues under focus.  Induction training on health and safety is held locally at centres and there are two appointed persons for first aid at each centre.  Other training courses include Fire Safety, Risk Assessment and accident and incident reporting, asbestos management and legionella awareness.

Other

All development contractors working for the Group are required to provide policy and procedures on health and safety management that are acceptable to the Group prior to engagement and to report any health and safety incidents to Senior Executives of the Group.  The Group ensures that health and safety issues in relation to buildings and developments are the responsibility of the relevant project managers and building surveyors.  Ultimate responsibility for health and safety issues within the Group rests with Jagtar Singh, the Group Finance Director.
